Captain Barrera is a native of Rio Grande City, TX and currently resides in Fort Worth, TX with his dogs. He was commissioned as an Armor Officer from the United States Military Academy in 2012. Following the completion of the Armor Officer Basic Course and Army Reconnaissance Course, CPT Barrera was assigned as Cavalry Platoon Leader with 1-13 CAV at Fort Bliss, TX where he deployed to the Kingdom of Jordan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom XIV. He also served as a troop commander in 316CAV BDE at Fort Benning, GA and held various staff positions until his departure from the Army in 2021. His military deployments include Jordan, Germany, and Poland. CPT Barrera medically retired in 2021.
Following his military career, CPT Barrera was a student at Texas Christian University and then became involved in the supply chain space. As a student, CPT Barrera supported the business school as a graduate ambassador for veteran outreach with the goal of recruiting more veterans into business and supporting their transition into civilian life.
CPT Barrera is currently working at Oncor Electric where he serves as a category manager in supply chain and on the VALOR group leadership team. He manages distribution, automation network, and metering categories throughout the service area of North Texas. Through his expertise in the electric distribution and supply chain space, CPT Barrera has been asked to be a guest speaker at the Utility Supply Management Alliance in May 2025 where he spoke on meeting the energy demands of AI/Data Centers through rapid supply chains and collaborative product development.
CPT Barrera also teaches at the Neely Business School, Texas Christian University in the Information Tech and Supply Chain department where he also supports veteran recruiting. Additionally, he is very active on the North Texas West Point Society Board of Directors as a sitting member.
